Go Ahead - Purge Your Pain

This blog was started as a way to begin my own healing, as well as a way to help the West Virginia community begin to heal. Please share your pain, your frustration, your hopes...and pictures of your couch that is set side for Unburned Couch Day.

Let me be the first to vent:

• Holy crap! Pitt? 4-7 Pitt? How in the world does a team come out so flat, so uninspired in a game that has so much riding on it? Perhaps it was too much pressure, I don't know. But I've noticed that the Mountaineers have somewhat of a history of dropping critical late-season games (South Florida last year?)that could have launched them to greater heights.
• How many chances does WVU have to get this close to a national championship? Can Rodriguez really keep this program at such a high level year after year that we'll have another shot anytime soon? In some ways I think he might, which gives me some comfort.
• OK, time for confession. MY WIFE WENT TO PITT. There, I said it. Perhaps this is some cosmic punishment against me? Am I to blame for this? Naaahhh....Luckily, she doesn't care about sports and is not a trash talker, or I would be in deep trouble.

A New Day of Remembrance - Until the Pain Stops

Announced today is a statewide communal demonstration of remembrance and sorrow known as Unburned Couch Day. Each year on December 1, WV citizens and WVU graduates across the country are asked to place an unburned couch in the front yard all day in remembrance of the greatest loss in Mountaineer history.

This practice will continue each year until the Mountaineers win the national championship. On that bright day, we will unite our couches as one in a glorious burning. Until then, we set aside December 1 – Unburned Couch Day – to remember.
